Honoring Jackie Robinson at Citi Field

The New York Mets opened their new stadium to the fans for an exhibition game before the 2009 season began giving fans a first look at the wonderful Jackie Robinson Rotunda. Some might take issue with the fact that Citi Field pays too much homage to the Brooklyn Dodgers but I’d argue that this pays homage to Robinson and not the Dodgers. After all, Citi Field’s predecessor Shea Stadium was where President Clinton, Rachel Robinson, and Commissioner Bud Selig gathered to announce that 42 would be universally retired in Jackie Robinson’s honor.
